In early 2009, WACKER opened a new process-development building for producing pharmaceutical proteins (biologics) in Jena, Germany. By thus optimizing its process-development chain, WACKER is responding to soaring demand for ESETEC®, its E. coli secretion technology. Thanks to an infrastructure ideal for developing the sophisticated process and analytical techniques of modern, microbial-based biologics, WACKER can now deliver double-digit gram quantities of highly purified proteins for pre-clinical development, prior to scale up in its GMP facility.

This proprietary technology is a simpler and more cost-effective way of obtaining high yields of antibody fragments, a successful new class of biotherapeutics.

Our novel technique produces up to 40 times more antibody fragments than can be achieved using conventional methods. Combining ESETEC® with DENSETEC®, our patented special E. coli high-cell-density fermentation process, increases yields by yet another 50%. Wacker Biotech can efficiently produce active pharmaceutical proteins with optimal space/time yields.
