WACKER's VINNOL®brand surface coating resins represent a broad range of vinyl chloride-derived copolymers and terpolymers for use in different industrial applications. The main constituents of these polymers are different compositions of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate. VC copolymers do not contain any other functional groups. The terpolymers of our VINNOL®product line additionally contain carboxyl or hydroxyl groups.
VINNOL®SURFACE COATING RESINS WITH CARBOXYL GROUPS
VINNOL®surface coating resins with carboxyl groups – identifiable by the additional M in the product name of the VINNOL® grades – are terpolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and dicarboxylic acids. These grades vary in terms of their molar composition and degree and process of polymerization.
VINNOL®surface coating resins with carboxyl groups show excellent adhesion, particularly on metallic substrates. VINNOL® M grades, however, adhere extremely well to mineral substrates, too.
VINNOL®SURFACE COATING RESINS WITH HYDROXYL GROUPS
VINNOL®surface coating resins with hydroxyl groups – the VINNOL® E/A grades – are copolymers and terpolymers of vinyl chloride, hydroxyacrylate and dicarboxylate. They vary in terms of their composition and degree of polymerization.
VC copolymers that contain hydroxyl groups are ideal for the manufacture of catalyzed surface coating systems, for example baking finishes and furniture varnishes. Desirable product properties can be selectively modified by the right choice of reactant.
VINNOL®SURFACE COATING RESINS WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL GROUPS
VINNOL®surface coating resins without functional groups are copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate of variable molar composition and degree of polymerization.
Vinyl chloride / vinyl acetate copolymers with a very high vinyl acetate content, such as the grades in our VINNOL® H 40 line, are preferably used to confer flexibility on coating systems subjected to stretching. They are also used to lower the sealing temperature of hot-sealable coatings.
