Silicate paints are naturally porous and consequently promote very high water-vapor diffusion. These paints are porous, and will therefore absorb water more extensively, which can cause the coating to become soaked-through. In moderate and cooler climates, capillary water uptake is more important because it plays a role in the functionality and durability of the coating. Through enhancement with SILRES® BS water-repellent additives, silicate paints remain open to diffusion, have an extremely low water absorption coefficient and thus are particularly durable.
