SILRES® BS:

SILRES^® BS masonry protection agents from WACKER, based on hydrophobic silicones, stand for the effective and value-preserving protection of buildings. On mineral surfaces or coatings, they build an exceptionally stable, and thus extremely longlasting, three-dimensional silicone-resin network that is hydrophobic yet water-vapor permeable. This makes it possible to reliably protect against structural damage and the effects of weathering. With SILRES^® BS, WACKER provides the answer to all practical questions regarding building protection through hydrophobization – in a wide variety of applications ranging from insulation materials to paints and plasters, as well as impregnation and masonry injection.

In silicone resin emulsion paints and plasters, the silicone resin encases fillers and pigments in a protective shell, giving rise to permanently hydrophobic capillaries and pores that are still water-vapor permeable. In hydrophobic impregnation and stone strengthening with SILRES^® BS, the active ingredient penetrates deeply into a building’s surface, forming a hydrophobic zone. This way, the products provide dependable water repellency for construction materials such as concrete, plaster , mortar and cement, or for construction material mixes containing lime – such as easy-to-clean systems. The vapor permeability is thereby retained, preventing harmful dampening from the inside. This protects steel-reinforced concrete and provides a lasting safeguard against water absorption, thus protecting against moisture-related damage such as corrosion of the reinforcing steel. Crude ceramic building materials – such as roof tiles, facing bricks and floor tiles – can be given long-term protection through silicone-based hydrophobic treatment with SILRES^® BS.

With insulating materials, the hydrophobization provides an efficient beading effect on the coating’s surface, thus preventing water penetration into insulation panels of modern exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS).

The SILRES^® BS-based masonry injection is used as an effective sealing measure for buildings without horizontal sealing. The injection of silicon emulsions into drill holes stops the spreading of dampness in walls and and the further transport of harmful substances, as well as drying out the masonry.
