Diesel-powered cars remain very much in vogue. To deliver the same performance as gasoline engines of the same size, however, diesel vehicles need a turbocharger. In a turbocharger, an exhaust-gas-driven turbine controls the inlet air, which is compressed to 3-5 bar in the turbocharge hose and cooled to the requisite temperature in the inter-cooler. The hose is exposed to pressure differences, temperature fluctuations and mechanical vibration. The tear resistance of turbocharger hoses is guaranteed by heat-curing WACKER silicone (HTV) in a composite bond with polyaramide woven fabric and fluorinated rubber.
