Optimum Insulation for Every Wall
Optimum Insulation for Every Wall

Significant energy can be saved with optimized thermal insulation – in old or new buildings, cool northerly regions or warm southern climes. Most exterior insulation and finish systems contain WACKER’s VINNAPAS®polymer powders or dispersions.

In WACKER’s Burghausen application laboratories, researchers put entire walls in climatic chambers, clamp them in test compartments and systematically disassemble them after elaborate testing.
Experts use a climatic chamber to investigate how EIFS is beneficial in warm countries as well. For this experiment, they built a wall around an air-conditioning system inside a climatic compartment and insulated the wall to various extents.
Subsequently, the WACKER employees carried out test runs up to an external temperature of 35 C and 95 % humidity and recorded the number of kilowatts consumed by the air conditioner. The results clearly show that air-conditioner energy consumption is significantly lower in an insulated house. This finally provided WACKER with the definitive figures needed to confirm EIFS’ significance in hot regions.

Research for Customers

Most tests carried out in the big hall in Burghausen are individually requested projects – tests for EIFS suppliers. Standardized EOTA (European Organisation for Technical Approvals) tests need to be carried out for the approval of new EIFSs, independent of any changes in the insulation material, plaster or adhesive.
EIFS experts test the reinforcement’s impact resistance with a ball. If it cracks excessively, the system is not certified.
After 25 days in a test chamber with changing weather conditions, experts test the wall for cracks, tensile strength and resistance. As a final step, they assess the wall together with an independent test institute.
The Burghausen team solves problems on a normal laboratory scale as well as for large walls – there are always new challenges. Customers from warmer regions, in particular, sometimes lack the experience to develop working systems. WACKER helps them – from consultation through suitable insulation panels to tailor-made guide formulations.

The benefits

VINNAPAS®polymer powders and dispersions bestow on end products include: easier processing, good anchorage to all substrates, increased flexibility, water-repellency and abrasion resistance.

They can be found in numerous building materials, such as tile adhesives, grouts, mineral plasters, sealing slurries, gypsum plasters, repair mortars, exterior insulation and finish systems, self-leveling compounds and powder paints.
