    A cleanroom at Wacker Biotech GmbH in Jena: genetically modified E. coli bacteria are grown in the fermenter to manufacture active proteins for use in drugs, so-called “biologics.” Biologics are used to treat, e.g., cancer, multiple sclerosis and hepatitis.
