As a company headquartered in Germany, WACKER can look back at an over 90-year history. Established in Burghausen in 1914, the company initially focused on the domestic market before continually extending its international network since the 1960s. Its IPO was prepared in 2005/2006. Today, the company has 25 production sites and generates just over 80 percent of sales outside Germany, primarily in the rest of Europe (24 percent), Asia (40 percent) and the Americas (17 percent). Thus, the Group is present in all key regions and has a global production, sales and service network.
WACKER is already one of the largest suppliers of global growth markets, including the solar and semiconductor industries, traditionally strong industries such as construction, as well as key interrelated sectors. The Group's business is based on processing silicon and ethylene into a myriad of organic and inorganic products for high-tech applications.
The Group generated total sales of €4,909.7 billion in 2012. WACKER's strategic focus is on market leadership, growth, cost leadership and innovation. Investments (incl. financial assets) have continually risen over the past years accordingly. The majority of this amount flows into strategic growth projects for WACKER POLYSILICON, as well as expansion in Asia.
