Social Responsibility - Wacker Chemie AG

Social Responsibility

For both employees and society in general, WACKER is committed to the utmost level of responsibility for facility and workplace safety, health protection and employee care.

Facility and Workplace Safety

The public also judges a chemical company on how safely it runs its work processes and facilities. Accordingly, WACKER continually reviews and revises its accident-prevention programs. This includes both functional crisis management, as well as effective error prevention.

Health Protection

WACKER is committed to the principles of a "healthy company" according to the Luxemburg Declaration. Top goals are the prevention of work-related illnesses and the preservation of employees' work and employment abilities. For this purpose, WACKER has developed a comprehensive health program that spans from traditional workplace health protection and individual employee health care services (including regular checkups) through to target-group-specific programs to promote health in collaboration with insurance companies and sport clubs. A particular focus here is on mastering the challenges posed by demographic change. A Groupwide health management system steers all of these activities. Burghausen's "Health Services" department is certified to ISO 9001 and OHRIS.

Responsibility for Employees

Social responsibility is a longstanding tradition at WACKER – motivated, qualified employees are our most valuable resource. We create the conditions in which all employees can fully develop their abilities. We do so via programs for personnel development, profit-sharing and pension benefits. Moreover, WACKER’s staff can progress by obtaining qualifications in individual training and advancement programs tailored to their personal strengths.

Corporate Citizenship

WACKER's responsibility extends far beyond the development and sale of products. As a corporate citizen, the company is imbedded in a network of societal relationships. A particular focus here is on younger generations. Thus, WACKER is committed to the "Bavarian Education Pact" and the "Young Scientist" competition. Plus, we maintain close contacts with colleges and universities worldwide. WACKER also offers internships and jobs for student employees, awards scholarships for the German Institute of Science and Technology in Singapore and promotes the chemistry competition at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Social responsibility also extends to our involvement in aid projects to support people in need – lasting help for people to help themselves. To do so, we founded WACKER HILFSFONDS (relief fund), a charitable foundation that assists wherever help is needed most. Since 2007, we have supported a German religious charity, "Die Arche," in Munich. The organization helps children from socially disadvantaged families.
